The Chairman, All Progressives Grand Alliance Enugu State, Mr Ndubuisi Enechionyia, has announced his intention to run for Enugu West Senate seat in the 2023 elections.
Expressing his interest in the contest on the platform of APGA, Enechionyia stated that the decision was borne out of the desire to provide quality representation anchored on regular communication and feedback, selfless service, transparency and accountability.
He hopes to put his banking and finance experience, turnaround management, community development services, audit and governance, as well as other skills, including the experiences acquired as APGA’s state chairman over the last three years, to good use.
His words, “My experiences in banking and finance, turnaround management, community development services, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises support, audit and governance, training and mentorship, and the last three years as Enugu chairman of APGA, rebuilding and repositioning the party as a grassroots-based alternative platform, has prepared me for this role.
“My representation will flow from regular interaction, communication and feedback from my constituents, and would initiate laws, advocate and lobby for projects that will enable growth and development in all facets of the lives of my constituents.”
He added that his legislative agenda for the zone would be predicated on the needs of the constituents, as they continuously engage to identify the things that are most important to them and how best to resolve them.
“Before the inauguration of our Senate session, we shall sit with our constituents and review previous representations, identify their needs, and determine the best solutions possible. Further, regular feedback through town halls, media and stakeholder engagement would ensure that our constituents can assess our representation and make their input.
“We would also leverage our knowledge and contacts within the private sector to attract development to our senatorial district,” he said.
According to him, the biggest hindrance to development in Nigeria is corruption by government officials and elected representatives, adding that despite being a strong advocate of the abrogation of death penalty, his legislative agenda will advocate death penalty for official corruption.
“Corruption has become so pervasive that desperate measures are required to snap us back to our senses. I believe that official corruption should be elevated to the level of coups or sabotage and dealt with accordingly,” he added.
Enechionyia’s senatorial zone comprises Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji River and Udi local councils of Enugu State.
