All Progressives Grand Alliance senatorial candidate for Enugu West, Ndubuisi Enechionyia, has advocated good governance through better legislation for the collective progress of Enugu State citizens.

Enechionyia, who is also the state chairman of APGA, noted that part of his strategic objectives is to deliver credible APGA candidates, who will join him in reversing the deterioration in public service and curb insecurity.

He said, “A major challenge we have is insecurity. Nothing can function in an environment of insecurity. I believe in multi level policing. While the long term goal would be constitutional changes to enable state and community policing, we need to immediately use legislation to resource, orientate, train, equip and motivate the various policing units at play.”

According to him, the issues of insecurity have weakened the political and economic framework of the state, enabling corrupt individuals to disrupt the nation’s polity.

“Governance is about capacity, vision, empathy, leadership, courage and the ability to lead by example. Enugu is lacking in competent leaders, and the people have had enough. They want a positive change,” he remarked.

Highlighting the economic overview of the state, Enechionyia stated that the potential of the zone had been under-utilised by the Peoples Democratic Party.

“My senatorial zone is a hub that connects all the South Eastern states. It is also a link between the North and South of Nigeria. The right investments and policies can transform Enugu West into a transport, manufacturing, technology, tourism and agricultural hub.

“Agriculture is the sector that will create jobs, feed the nation, drive exports and revamp the economy. We must use legislation to direct, support and encourage massive investment in commercial agriculture and the various value chains. Legislation should direct infrastructure towards enabling and supporting agriculture,” he added.

Addressing the Electoral Act 2022, Enechionyia expressed support for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to make the elections free and fair, adding that the task could not be left to INEC alone.

He said, “The electoral process is an ideal and integral part of the democratic process. A malfunctioning electoral system inadvertently produces bad administrations. There are good and clear signs of seriousness from INEC. They require our support, sacrifice and commitment. INEC alone cannot deliver credible elections. The security agencies, the government at various levels, the political parties and the politicians must show patriotism and commit to doing what is required to deliver credible elections.”
