Many go into catering business, including sugar craft, to eke out a living. Not so for the founder of SugarKrafters, Mrs. Adetayo
How did you start the cake business?
I grew up with the love for baking. My mother used to bake endlessly while I was growing up. It became a hobby for me, and I just thought I could do something with my passion. It is officially two years now that the company has been running.
While you were in Methodist Girls and University of Lagos, did you ever think that you would be a baker?
Not at all; I had always baked for pleasure.
There are a lot of people in the baking business. How did you know the market would be receptive to your brand?
Yes, there are loads of people in the baking industry and no single baker can satisfy the needs of the society. Therefore, there’s always a market for everyone.
How have you been funding your operations?
The business is still in its prime and growing. The funding majorly has been from clients.
What were the main challenges you faced setting up, operating and growing the business?
We are still in the phase of growing the business.
What do customers mainly say about your product/service?
They say very good things. But we can definitely do better. It is the product itself.
It is believed that entrepreneurs are restless people. Tell us about the next big idea.
The next big idea is still cooking (laughs).You will get to know about it.
What advice do you have for entrepreneurs who want to start a business?
They should believe in themselves and just start, no matter how small.
What expansion plans do you have for SugarKrafters in the next 10 years?
In the next 10 years, I see us on the lips of so many people in and outside the country.
How do prospective customers and partners reach you?
Sometimes through social media platforms, referrals and other times friends and family members asking us to make a cake for them.
What do you think about Nigerian entrepreneurs?
Nigerian entrepreneurs are awesome; they’re learning to survive in our prevailing economy.
Where do you see yourself and SugarKrafters in Nigeria’s
I see myself at the top, alongside the company. We are not doing that for now. But it is part of our future plans.
